Memorial services have been announced for the father and adopted daughter from Dutchess County and the daughter's infant son who were killed on Thursday, April 12 in New Milford, Conn., and in North Carolina in a triple-murder suicide in a case linked to incest.
Anthony Charles Fusco, 56, of Wingdale was a beloved community member in Dover. Katie Rose Fusco Pladl, 20, was the adopted daughter of Anthony Fusco and Kelly Anne Fusco. Bennett Kieron Pladl, who was 7 months old, was the son of Katie Pladl.
Calling hours for Anthony, Katie and Bennett will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 20 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22 in Dover Plains.
The following morning, a mass of Christian burial, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 21 at St. Charles Borromeo Church on 62 Mill St. in Dover Plains.
Katie Rose Fusco Pladl was born Jan. 29, 1998 in Austin, Texas. She was a graduate of Dover High School Class of 2016 and a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church. She worked as a self-employed freelance artist. Her son, Bennett, was born on Sept. 1, 2017 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Katie created beautiful art throughout her life and was in the process of pursuing a career using these talents and passions. Katie loved all animals with a special fondness for rescuing stray cats. She was also a superior drummer.
Besides her mother and grandmother, Lucille Marino Fusco of Waterbury, she is also survived by her sister, Nicole Anne Fusco and her partner, Hy Carrel of San Francisco; three uncles, Cary Gould and James Gould of Syracuse, Lawrence Fusco, and six cousins.
Anthony Fusco was born on Sept. 18, 1961 in Waterbury, the son of Lucille Marino Fusco of Waterbury and the late Mario Fusco.
Tony married Kelly Ann Gould on Sept. 24, 1983 in Syracuse. Right out of high school, Tony joined the United States Coast Guard rising to chief petty officer over his 30-year career.
He also brought thoughtfulness and compassion to his 20-year career as a correctional officer at Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury.
After achieving his goal of completing Fire Training Academy, Tony retired from FCI Danbury last year and focused mainly on his family and friends, while working part-time as a security guard for Securitas at the Cricket Valley Energy Center in Dover Plains.
Tony loved his family and made his friends and neighbors feel like close family. Tony devoted himself to the people around him, serving as a current member of the Town of Dover Zoning Board of Appeals, a member of the Music Boosters of the Dover Union Free School District and American Legion Post #1949 in Wingdale. Tony was a parishioner and former CCD teacher of St. Charles Borromeo Church.
He leaves two brothers-in-law, Cary Gould and James Gould, both of Syracuse, a brother, Lawrence Fusco, five nieces and one nephew. Tony also leaves behind his four-legged son, Bandit and the many animals whose lives he and Kelly saved.
